PwC Promotion Day 2017

We previously announced PwC’s new class of 2017 partners. In that post we detailed how PwC promoted 212 new partners to their 2017 PwC Partner Class. How do those partners get to celebrate their achievement. PwC has a unique event that they hold across the country called promotion day. The PwC New York office gets the best benefit out of this day because they typically get a celebrity guest speaker.

However, PwC celebrates these promotions and the promotions of all other promotes in huge promotion day celebrations across the country. More specifically, PwC celebrates promotion day in New York city in a large way. Everyone gathers at Madison Square Garden and they have a special guest speak to the people promoted as well as everyone in the New York Office.

In 2016, PwC had Trevor Noah of Comedy Central’s daily show speak at this event. See the pictures below.

However in 2017, PwC really got a great guest and booked Michael Phelps to be their promotion day speaker.

PwC has these guest speakers speak about their successes in life and how they achieved them and celebrate those days. PwC also has the speakers try to relate it back to field of accounting or business and provide some advice and guidance to the newly promoted employees.

In the past this event was held at the Jacob Javits convention center which is also in New York City. Past guests of this event include Magic Johnson, Coach K, Derek Jeter, Queen Latifah, etc.

The event is all about just the guest speaker though. There are some general speeches about how great it is to work at PwC and the details around all the people promoted in that year.

New York is obviously the event with the grandest scale out of all the PwC offices because of the number of employees working at the PwC New York office, but the other offices of PwC also partake in PwC promotion Day. You can see evidence from the PwC Philadelphia Promotion day below.

As you can see there are many members of leadership that attend this event including PwC US Chairman Tim Ryan.

The event includes catered food and drinks. The festivities do not conclude at the areas where the events are usually held. The festivities often extend in the bars and clubs outside of these areas. New York has a great bar and club scene, so you can imagine how long these events can last.

That is the one great thing about PwC versus the other big 4 accounting firms is that they truly do make you feel special every promotion you receive because you get to celebrate with other colleagues and you get to see celebrities if you work in New York.
